Perfectly Imperfect Inspiration

I’ve always wanted to share my admiration for my inspiration Demi Lovato but I’ve never had the words but I’m going to try. People say, ‘how can she be your inspiration when she doesn’t know you exist’ etc etc. Whether you’re a fan of Demi or not there is no doubt in my mind that she has certainly inspired thousands if not millions of people across the world, she has certainly helped me more than I care to admit and I honestly couldn’t be more grateful to her.

Demi has just released her new single, ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ from her new album, which the title is not yet known, and let me tell you it’s an absolute tune! I may be totally biased but go ahead and listen yourself and make your own judgement. It’s a message to the haters and it’s such a good dancing, good feeling, summer vibe and I love it!

Now, my story is an incredibly long one and I won’t go into much detail and I hope to share my story one day but let’s just say I’ve been through some incredibly dark times and my mental health got shattered. The only thing that made me happy was music and specifically Demi’s music and her story that she shared in order to help thousands of people around the world. If you follow her on twitter she gives out what fans (Lovatics) like to call Buddha tweets, these tweets are just sheer inspiration to be your best self or just little reminders about mental health.

Let’s not forget her book, ‘Staying Strong 365 Days a Year’. This book is incredible through my recovery I used this book as a guide to build myself back up from the bottom. The book consists of a quote, either from Demi herself or a famous quote she lives by, and then a paragraph on how she interprets it into her life and her recovery and then also a daily goal in which to achieve on the day.

In my lowest of lows and highest of highs Demi and her music have always been a solid thing in my life and I can honestly say if I didn’t have this in my life I don’t know where I would be today. I’ve became a huge fan when did Camp Rock for Disney and it just progressed from there. She is an advocate for Mental Health and reducing the stigma around it, bullying and so much more. I’m not going to sit here and says she’s a perfect human (although this is debatable) but I’m just going to say she a perfectly imperfect role model for women of all ages. She has proved to the world that no matter what you go through you can get through it and that there is a light at the end of a tunnel.

Seeing Demi Lovato in concert on the 1st June 2014 was honestly a dream come true. She hardly ever does concerts in the UK and I was lucky enough to get tickets for the show and also VIP soundcheck which is where she sings a few songs and talks to a smaller group of people to check all the equipment and sound levels before a concert. She sang a song called, ‘Believe in Me’ which is my absolute favourite song which I actually have tattooed on my wrist. I cried so much, practically from beginning to end of the concert because I was just so happy to be there and for the first time that was the only thing that mattered. In that moment, I didn’t have to worry about a thing, I could just escape everything for a few hours. I also met so many friends that I had made via social media and it was the best!

So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for being incredible and such an inspiring human being to look up to. The link to Demi’s song ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ is available on Spotify and Apple Music.
